As we start a new year, it is important to put 2020 in the rearview mirror and make the most of the year ahead.
As we start a new year, it is important to put 2020 in the rearview mirror and make the most of the year ahead. That said, it is important to take a quick look back and glean the positives that we can use going forward and learn from the issues that we overcame last year.
We worked on 161 projects in 2020. Aside from COVID-19 related shutdowns, we celebrate that we missed 0 days of work due to work related injury. We always strive for this number to be zero each year and want to commend everyone on working as safely as possible in this dangerous industry.
Secondly, we added 15 new team members over the past 12 months which is a testament to the recruiting that you do every day by presenting yourself and the company in a positive light to the people and community around you. We have a great mix of experience levels. Our median age of everyone at Berg is 40 years old.
Third, we were able to give back to both internal and external needs though monetary and time donations.
Fourth, we celebrated our first semi-retirement of a team member. Through Mark’s mentoring of a replacement, we were able to continue the work that he started from the time he joined our team.
Fifth, we made a significant jump in our GPS abilities with the addition of Scott. His vast knowledge which has allowed for better utilization and training in the past year.
With growth and success comes some opportunities. We had some machinery and vehicle damage happen this past year. The good news is that everyone was unharmed, and metal can be fixed.
We had some unexpected time off this past Spring by the order of the state, but due to the essentialness of our work, we were able to return sooner than expected. Some projects that we were ready to begin were pulled back due to the effects of COVID-19. The estimating and field management team was able to adjust on the fly and keep work in front of us.
Unfortunately, we were unable to host our appreciation events where we could gather in large groups. Traci and the team adapted and made sure that we found ways to catch up and show our appreciation like the field visits and Christmas luncheon.
The appreciation that I have for each of you grew even more as we navigated through this past year. The determination and grit that everyone showed to band together and move forward was and is commendable. I look forward to the personal growth that comes from mentorship and training that will propel the company forward in the new year.
Thank you for all you do!
